In testimony before the Senate Armed Services Committee, U.S. Air Force General Philip Breedlove said that Russia is eager to exert unquestioned influence over neighboring countries
Russia’s entry into the fight in Syria has changed the dynamic in the air and on the ground, despite public statements to the contrary, Breedlove said. He added that Russia has done little to counter the Islamic State militant group, but has greatly bolstered the regime of President Bashar al-Assad and his allies
According to John F. kennedy, "great crises produce great men, and great deads of courage." He clearly relished the opportunity of testing himself at a time when the Cold War tensions were at their height. The journalist Henry Fairlie captured the mood when he observed that throughout Kennedy's presidency, the United States "lived in an atmosphere of perpetual crises and recurring crises. Policy was subjected to crises, and was used in turn to stimulate the response of the people. So they lived for a 1000 days in expectation of danger, and of rescue from it." Kennedy's time in the White House would be defined by the Cuban Missile Crises which brought the United States and the Soviet Union to the brink of nuclear war. From American Politics: by Jon Roper.
