Richard Dawkins takes on Religion

Mehdi Hasan interviews evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins at the Oxford Union and asks:

  • Is religion a force for good or evil?
  • Can it co-exist with science?
  • Is science the new religion?

And why if god does not exist, is religion so persistent?

Mehdi Hasan (born 1979) is a British political journalist, broadcaster and author from a British Indian background.
Richard Dawkins (born 1941) is an evolutionary biologist. He is well known for his criticism of creationism: a religious belief that life, the Earth, and the universe are the creation of a supernatural being. Creationism is based on literal interpretations of the narratives of particular religious texts. By contrast, science is a system of knowledge based on observation, empirical evidence and testable explanations and predictions of natural phenomena.
